Another year and Another Skeeter Boats Owner’s Tournament.
This year 50 competitors descended on the picturesque Macleay River at South West Rocks for, a weekend of fishing and socializing.
The weekend started off with the big Aussie BBQ on Friday night and a few drinks. During the briefing our Skeeter goodie bags were handed out along with the first prize of the weekend that Shaun Chapman of Taree won (albeit playing scissors, paper, rock). It was an impressive signed and framed Team Berkley AFC Jersey.
Saturday morning started with the Great Aussie Duck Hunt where 10 yellow ducks are placed out on the River and after fishing started at 7am it is a race to go and find a yellow duck. Some teams chose the duck hunt others chased Bream but got interrupted by the large number of Jewfish schools in the river. It was said that during the day one team caught 16 Jeewfish. In saying that Anthony Nyberg, fishing out of his ZX190, lead the charge on day one with an impressive 2.65kg bag of bream.
Saturday afternoon was beer and prawns afternoon. With 10kg of king prawns and cold crown lager it was not to be missed. After the beer and prawns the courtesy bus arrived to take everyone to South West Rocks Tavern for dinner and the rubber duck prize ceremony. After a great dinner the duck prizes were handed out:
Back to the fishing Sunday dawned bright and clear again with not a breath of wind. Today the fishing was a little better but the leaders struggled which allowed Shimano/Skeeter Angler Adam Ward to come from behind and snatch his 2nd Skeeter Owner's Tournament Victory. While accepting the trophy and the $500 cash Ward said “it was a great weekend, not only the fishing, but the hospitality of the weekend. Josh puts on a great event and just goes to show that Skeeter Boats is the leader in Australia, not just in boats but in everything they do. It is great to be associated with such a great company”.
Other Prizes handed out for the week went to secret weigh bags and secret weight fish each session along with the biggest Bream for the Saturday and Sunday:
Shimano Biggest Bream Saturday – Anthony Nyberg 875g
Shimano Biggest Bream Sunday – Mark Dunphy 820g (donated prize to Jacko – keenest young kid at the tournament)
